How much does an Interlocking Driveway Cost? The average cost of an interlocking driveway is between $20 to $25 per square foot. This cost can greatly differ depending on a few factors; what products are being used, how large is the driveway, what type of material is currently on the driveway and is excavation required. Although this is the average, the only real answer to the question; how much does an interlocking driveway cost is, it depends. In this article, will break down the cost factors and provide an overview of what to expect when shopping for an interlocking driveway in Halton Region in 2024.

Size

Residential driveways can range in size from a 200 square foot driveway on a townhouse to a 4000 square foot driveway on a large property.  For the purpose of this article, we will take an average suburban detached home with a double car garage which is usually around a 600 square foot driveway.  The average cost for a 600 SQ FT interlock driveway in Halton Region including all material labour and disposal is $12,000 to $15,000.  The pricing is based on a 600 square foot driveway at $20 to $25 per square foot all-inclusive costs when using a $7 per square foot paver. Deconstruction

The type of material the current driveway is constructed from can heavily impact the pricing.   It does not cost much to remove and dispose of a simple asphalt driveway.  Whereas, a concrete driveway will carry a significant expense to demolish, remove and dispose.  Removing a concrete driveway requiring a heavy-duty concrete breaker to break the large slabs into smaller pieces which can be very time consuming.  This type of existing driveway material can add an expense of $4 to $10 per square foot to remove depending on the quality and thickness of the concrete.

Additionally, the base under the existing driveway may need to be removed which can create unforeseen expenses.  Majority of asphalt driveways constructed after 1980 are built with approximately 12” of crushed gravel to comply with builder’s guidelines.  If the gravel base under the existing driveway is not sufficient, this can add an expense of $4 to $6 to excavate and replace it with the 10” to 12” of base material required to supposed a residential interlocking driveway.

Distributors

There are 6 main manufacturers that distribute interlocking pavers in Milton, Mississauga, Oakville and Burlington.  Best Way Stone, Techo Bloc, Permacon, Unilock, Oaks and Rinox.  All of their products are manufactured in Canada and are built to withstand Canadian winters.

BEST WAY STONE & OAKS

Best Way Stone and Oaks are both manufacturers that are local to the GTA and offer the most cost-effective interlocking stones on the market. The product lines from they offer range in the low to mid price points.  For Best Way Stone, although the costs are slightly lower than some of the other manufacturers, their dedication to customer service and quality of product is right in line with the competition.

PERMACON & RINOX

Permacon and Rinox have a slightly more expensive product line compared to Best Way Stone or Oaks.  Both companies offer some low-end and some mid-range products. They have more diverse product lines that offer a wider spectrum of finishes and colours.  Although they are a step ahead of Oaks, they are a few steps behind companies like Techo Bloc and Unilock.

TECHO BLOC & UNILOCK

Techo Bloc and Unilock are at the top of the game offering the cleanest finishes and nicest looking products on the market.   Their product lines range from mid to high end.  Although Techo-Bloc and Unilock have mid-range product lines such as Blu 60 or Beacon Hill that have sleek almost tile like looking finishes, in some cases, clients lean more towards the Best Way Stone’s Trevista or Permacon’s Melville as they have more of a concrete appeal to the surface.
